FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa Theme Songs
75Upcoming FIFA 2010 World Cup
The countdown is on! Just 83 more days for the monumental 2010 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup event, to be held in South Africa this year. This is the 19th FIFA World Cup event, but the first one ever to be held in an African nation. The 2010 FIFA World Cup games will commence on the 11th June and continue until the 11th July. Yes people, one whole month of magnificent football games with football teams representing their countries from all over the world. Well at least the countries that were successful during the qualification process. I know that Americans know refer to football as soccer but I know it as football so in this hub, I'll refer to it as football.
This hub is not to give you information about the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup games. I only want to write about the theme songs for the World Cup which I only came across today and loved and I've been listening to just two songs over and over and looking at the youtube videos so I thought I'd share them with you. Okay before I go on though, let me just clarify that I am not 100% sure which song is the Official theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is either the song "Oh Africa" by Akon featuring Keri Hilson or it could be the song "Waving Flag" by K'Naan. Read on.. I'll try to clarify why the confusion.
"Oh Africa"
So this is the song that started my obsession today. "Oh Africa" by Akon, featuring the Keri Hilson. There are two videos that I found and really, really liked. You should definitely check out both. The first one is the really a Pepsi Ad with the song in the background. Now some of you may know that the ads that Pepsi produces for these events are truly magnificent. This one is just as great! But, please, don't take my word for it. Have a look yourself. You won't be disappointed.
I don't want to sell it out but this Pepsi ad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is absolutely splendid! It features some of the present greatest football stars like Thierry Henry (France), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Kaka (Brazil), Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Frank Lampard (England). This awesome advertisement had the football stars being challenged by an African youth, football fan, wearing a t-shirt with Henry's name written at the back, when the football stars asked for Pepsi. The game than ensued was brilliant! With a 'field' being formed with people and it moved as the game progressed. Okay enough. Just go have a look! I am sorry but this video was subsequently removed from youtube.
Another video for this same "Oh Africa" song is also really great. The video starts off with Akon and a map of Africa in the background. Also in the video you'd hear African drums. This video also featured the Soweto Gospel Choir which I found was great! The colors used were vibrant and it was a multi-racial, multi-cultural video with people representing different countries like Greece and Nigeria, with the faces painted with flags. Appearances were also made by popular football players like Michael Ballack (Germany) and Andrei Arshavin (Russa). What I liked best about this video is the ending where the football players kicked different color football sized paint balls, hitting the wall and creating a mural of football players faces with the paint splash. It really is worth seeing. The mellifluous song itself was very catchy!
This other song, which is sponsored by Coca-Cola (go figure) is done by Somalian born, but Canadian based singer K'Naan and it's called "Waving Flags". I got hooked on the Akon song but this song is also very catchy and the lyrics are probably more soulful than "Oh Africa". However, in terms of getting you into a football mood I'd say Pepsi won! You'd notice though that all these videos are labelled "Official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup". I tried looking it up but this internet has anything and everything on it published by anyone and everyone so I am not quite sure but the latest I read, dated 12th March, indicated that this video by K'Naan was indeed the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. I am also putting two videos here because on shows a cool African themed video and the other one has where K'Naan is performing and the crowd is dancing along, in sync with one another and well it's growing on me too! Gosh, tomorrow I need to find another obsession!
Okay folks so there you have it. The two songs but four videos that I like and that are the theme songs, also referred to as the anthem, for the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup football games to be held in South Africa. The opening ceremony for the World Cup Kick-off Celebration concert is set for June 10th in Johannesburg and is said to have a lineup of major star singers like Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, John Legend, The Parlotones, Vieux Farka and many more. You can check FIFA's Official Website for further information. If you are really into the ads you can also check youtube for Nike's football ad that features hottie Cristiano Ronaldo.
On a sad note, David Beckham will most likely not be a part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup! You can read about it here.
The next FIFA World Cup will be held in 2014 in guess where? Brazil! That's great. If I am still here I'll be able to be a part of the excitement.. if I am not here then hopefully I will get to see some of the Brazilian national team games before I leave. We'll see.. one thing's for sure - I'd be ready with camera in hand.
Shakira
Okay so now I am seeing that there is another song being called the Official Theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup so I am now unsure was to which song is really the official song. I guess we will have to wait and see when the 2010 World Cup starts.... just to be sure.
You can check out Shakira's song - Waka Waka - This song is growing on me.. I am loving it more and more.. when at first I prefered Akon and K'Naan songs. So I guess all three are good and I'm still undecided as to which one I like the best.

What's they song played before matches accompanied by a video of past world cup action and fans... with a Reggae feel. Been searching everywhere for it.
Goes something like: "you bring me loooovee...."
No thats not it. So far i have not seen it anywhere... Don't even think its an official World Cup song... was just played before each game... Kinda like Sean Kingston that they played (I think) pregame at all Germany 06 games.
Bob Marley. You Could be loved. Found it
Yeah I'm looking for the same song as Igs
It has a Raggae feel and I'm sure part of the lyrics contain "Give me looooove"
